    Monday, March 10
Special Guest Chef from San Francisco: Joanne Weir

Joanne Weir is many things: a world traveler, a James Beard Award-winning cookbook author, a cooking teacher, and a chef and television personality. Her newest endeavor is a 26-part public television series, Joanne Weir’s Cooking Class, accompanied by a companion cookbook.

Her first cookbook, From Tapas to Meze, was selected as one of Julia Childs' 12 personal favorites of 1994. From there she went on to publish a library of cookbooks including a series called Seasonal Celebration, You say Tomato and Weir Cooking. She was first recognized by PBS in, Weir Cooking in the Wine Country, also produced with a companion book, Weir’s More Cooking in the Wine Country, that went on to receive her first James Beard Award nomination. Her second series with PBS, Weir Cooking in the City, focused upon her adopted town, San Francisco. This companion book went on the win her first James Beard Award for Best Cookbook, General Category in 2005.

Joanne began under legendary chef, Alice Walters of Chez Panisse, in Berkeley California then studied with Madeleine Kamman in New England and France where she received her Master Chef Diploma. Today, when she is not producing cooking shows for PBS, she spends seven to eight months touring the globe sharing her extensive background in food theory and technique.

    Special Guest Chef: Rebecca Rather

A native Texan, Rebecca Rather makes the most of her Lone Star state's varied traditions by looking to the kitchens of Texas' Mexican and German immigrants and to the cowboy culture of her own forebears. Best of all, her recipes aren't fussy; one of her best selling cakes stirs together in a single saucepan. Add in a cupful of Texas attitude and her made-from-scratch-with-love philosophy and you've got an irresistible taste of American baking.

Rebecca began her career as a private caterer in Houston, before moving on to become pastry chef for Houston restaurateur Tony Vallone and his group of restaurants. After apprenticing with Daniel Leader, she worked as executive pastry chef for research and development for Schlotzsky's Bread Alone cafés. In 1999, she started her own business, Rather Sweet Bakery, in Austin. In 2001, she moved the bakery to the scenic Hill Country town of Fredericksburg, Texas, expanding to serve lunch daily and dinner on weekends. She has been featured in Texas Monthly, Gourmet, Ladies' Home Journal, Food & Wine, Southern Living, Chocolatier, and Saveur, where she was among Saveur's 100 favorites for 2003.

    What Would Emily Post Say?
With Special Guests: Anna and Tricia Post

You just fired someone via e-mail. Your brother-in-law never RSVP'd to your wedding invitation. Your college-aged daughter is bringing home her new boyfriend for the weekend and you two have opposite ideas about the sleeping arrangements. And what about how that clerk at the grocery store treated you? Would Emily Post roll over in her grave to see our cell phones, low rider jeans and emailed thank-you notes? Hear Anna and Tricia's insights into the state of civility today.

Anna Post is the great-great-granddaughter of Emily Post and the author of Emily Post's Wedding Parties: Smart Ideas for Stylish Parties, From Engagement to Reception and Everything in Between. Anna is currently at work on her second book, due in 2008.

As an author in her late 20s, Anna approaches etiquette from a perspective that draws on tradition and history while encouraging readers to realize that etiquette is less about worrying about which fork to use and more about treating people with consideration, honesty and respect. Anna speaks at bridal shows, providing wedding etiquette advice and tips. She is also a graduate of The Emily Post Institute's Business Etiquette Train-the-Trainer program and is a speaker in the Institute's Business Etiquette Seminar series.

Anna's popularity with media outlets seeking advice on modern etiquette dilemmas is on the rise. Her interviews include USA Today, the Associated Press, the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Boston Globe, Forbes.com, O at Home, and Real Simple.

Tricia Post is the great-granddaughter-in-law of Emily Post and the co-author of the forthcoming Emily Post's Wedding Questions with her daughter Anna Post (January, 2009). Tricia is also the director of content and website development at the Institute, where she manages the Emily Post Institute's online presence from development and design to content and tone. The satellite websites feature different books and topics, such as the wedding center which features the four Emily Post wedding books. Other sites include "How Do You Work This Life Thing?";" Emily's Magic Words"; "Emily's Everyday Manners"; "Excuse Me, But I Was Next... How to Handle the Top 100 Manners Dilemmas"; and "Essential Manners for Couples."
