Feng Shui Style with Feng Shui Hair Stylist Billy Yamaguchi

Billy Yamaguchi will be speaking and available for private appointments.

As president and co-owner of Yamaguchi Enterprises, Billy Yamaguchi has developed a series of salons that offer unsurpassed services in luxurious settings. With California locations in Ventura, La Quinta Resort & Spa in La Quinta, La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, the new Four Seasons in Westlake Village, Rancho Las Palmas in Rancho Mirage, and the Del Coronado Hotel in Coronado Island, the salons truly exemplify the holistic principles that guide his vision of beauty. More than ten years ago, Billy began his study of Feng Shui and a quest to wed this philosophy to his training in the Western tradition of hair design. He soon discovered there was no existing method of integrating these disciplines and he devoted himself to combining the elements into an entirely innovative approach to beauty and harmony. He was the first to adapt Feng Shui techniques and products to the Beauty Industry.

During the course of his eighteen- year career, Billy has participated in countless fashion shows, photo and make-up shoots and television commercials. He is one of the spokespersons for Schwarzkopf, Inc., a renowned hair color manufacturer, and he has conducted educational classes throughout the United States and abroad. Leading seminars and workshops throughout Europe, Asia, South America, North America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, Billy has brought the fundamentals of hair artistry and the Feng Shui principles as they are applied to beauty to a worldwide community of stylists.

Billy is the author of Yamaguchi Feng Shui: The Art & Science of Color Formulation for the salon professionals as well as Billy Yamaguchi Feng Shui Beauty which is available in book stores and online. Billy was selected by HairColor USA among top colorists internationally and was cited as one of the twenty-five most influential educators of the century.

In 2006, Yamaguchi Salons were voted top twenty salons in US by beauty editors. In January/February 2007 issue of California Style Magazine [C Magazine], Yamaguchi Salons were listed as one of top five salons in California. Recognized as a "Holistic Hair Artist" by Town and Country and as a "Feng Shui Artist" by Bridge Magazine, USA, his work as also been showcased in Salon Today, Modern Salon, American Salon, and Hairspa. Chocolatier Tracy Anderson

Woodhouse Chocolate was created out of a passion for chocolate and a desire to create unforgettable confections from the world's finest ingredients. At the age of 20, proprietors John and Tracy Wood Anderson discovered fine European chocolates while attending college abroad in London. In the years since, they have traveled extensively, but particularly throughout Belgium and France, visiting chocolatiers, and tasting and studying the world's finest confections.

Woodhouse Chocolate is located in Napa Valley in a historic 1890's stone and brick building on St. Helena's Main Street. The chocolates are presented like fine jewelry in a shop reminiscent of an 18th century Parisian salon, complete with mirrored walls, tapestries, wooden moldings and a sparkling crystal chandelier. A door in the back of the shop opens onto a generous and modern kitchen, well-equipped with Belgian equipment, where all of the chocolates are produced on-site.

The Global Garden: Connecting the World of Horticulture to Your Own Backyard with Special Guest Gardener: Amy Stewart

Bestselling author Amy Stewart was a beginning gardener in Santa Cruz when she wrote the gardening memoir From the Ground Up: The Story of a First Garden. In the last decade her curiosity about the natural world has taken her to earthworm scientists in the Midwest, flower growers in Ecuador, plant breeders in Holland, and poison gardens in England.

Amy always returns to her own garden, where she uses the lessons she's learned around the world to plant a lively, colorful, and environmentally-friendly sanctuary. Join her as she shares her unique stories about how science, natural history, and a community of plant lovers have shaped her experience of gardening. As she says, "Gardening is about so much more than what you do in your backyard on the weekend--it's about creating habitat, creating community, and making the world a better place."

Special Earth Day Presentation: Gardening for the 21st Century
    with Nan Booth Simpson

Nan Booth Simpson, a fifth-generation Texan, is a landscape architect who specializes in residential garden design. She has worked on projects throughout the United States, and has spent much of her career writing about gardens. She co-authored The Texas Garden Resource Book and served as a consultant to Practical Guide to Garden Design in the Time-Life Complete Gardener series. She has contributed to such journals as Southern Living, Southern Accents, Landscape Architecture, Garden Design and currently writes feature articles for Wildflower, the national quarterly of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Her latest books Texas Gardening for the 21st Century and The Texas Garden Resource Book will be out in early 2010.

"I firmly believe that gracious living begins with good design. Looking back on my career, I’ve always taken the atypical approach," says Nan. "In a profession that focuses on large-scale projects, I prefer the intimate scale and attention to detail that residential design requires. My landscape architecture practice has been decidedly “hands-on.” In working with the forms, colors and textures of gardens, I’ve been able to apply my earlier training in fine arts. To me the same design principles are at play whether planning seasonal color for a garden, pruning a shrub or creating a flower arrangement. The gardens I design are outdoor rooms where my clients entertain their friends with the kind of warmth and style Texans have come to expect."
