Weeklong Celebration Features Star Chefs and Delicious Experiences

 

AUSTIN, TX – Distinguished by a menu that successfully marries “health” and “gourmet,” Lake Austin Spa Resort shares secrets of preparing deliciously healthy cuisine for one week every month during its celebrated Lake Austin Culinary Experience ™ program. An overall focus on wellness pervades at the top ranked 40-room destination spa where guests can partake in up to 20 daily classes and activities and choose from 100+ spa treatments at the LakeHouse Spa to round out their culinary focused experience.

The popular series begins on the second Monday of every month, year round. Lake Austin Spa Resort’s culinary team is joined by renowned restaurateurs, cookbook authors, James Beard award winners and acclaimed television personalities in a very intimate setting, providing guests with unforgettable culinary activities. Additionally, Lake Austin Spa Resort showcases the talents of their own Executive Chef Stéphane Beaucamp. Chef Beaucamp began his culinary training in Paris, France and shares his passion for healthy living and clean, fresh food with resort guests during his fun, interactive classes highlighting his signature “Conscientious Cuisine.”

During the Culinary Experience weeks, in addition to daily cooking demonstrations, other activities may include The World of Wine, All About Olive Oil, Guided Organic Garden Tours, Hands on Lunch and Learn, Seasonal Superfoods, Smoothie Express and other seasonal specialties. March 12, 2019. Join Austin musician, Kimmie Rhodes as she cooks up delicious recipes and shares stories and songs. Kimmie’s multi-platinum selling songs have been recorded by such stellar acts as Willie Nelson, Wynonna Judd, Trisha Yearwood, Amy Grant, CeCe Winans, Joe Ely, John Farnham, Waylon Jennings, Peter Frampton, Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris.

March 14, 2019. Renowned chef, culinary instructor, and writer, Beth Pav began her career as a TV writer and producer, but a two-month European journey changed the course of her life. She returned with a passion for creating the endless possibilities that begin with fresh, wholesome ingredients. She graduated from L’Academie de Cuisine and took additional classes at the Culinary Institute of America. Then she opened Cooking by Design Culinary Studio in Austin, Texas, as a home base for private cooking classes, food styling, and her personal chef service.

April 16, 2019. Michelle Michelotti is a native New Mexican. She is founder and creator of Eatentions, an organic, locally sustainable company specializing in culinary socials, boutique catering, weekly meal offerings, and community food events and causes. She has studied extensively in Italy, New York and Los Angeles as well as locally in Santa Fe where she assisted opening a restaurant in 2016. She is the former founder and owner of Cucina Angelica, and former co-owner of Pasta Divina.

April 18, 2019. Claudia Lucero took an unconventional path to becoming a dairy-free maven. A desire to know what was going into her food led her to master the ancient art of cheese making. Her partner’s anti-inflammatory diet motivated her to create cheesy dishes that were non-dairy. She started developing delicious dairy-free recipes for cheeses that tasted, melted, stretched, and crumbled just like traditional dairy cheeses. Lucero used the same make-it-from-scratch philosophy with easy to follow step-by-step techniques to create her book “One-Hour Dairy-Free Cheese.” Her unique recipes replicate the rich flavor, tangy goodness, and luscious texture of traditional dairy-based cheeses.

April 19-20, 2019. Food and Dining editor of The Washington Post, Joe Yonan supervises all food coverage in the features department. He is also the editor of “America The Great Cookbook” (Welson Owen, 2017) and has written two cookbooks for Ten Speed Press. Yonan also shares stories about his efforts to grow food on his 150-square-foot urban front yard. His work from The Globe and The Washington Post has appeared in multiple editions of the “Best Food Writing” anthology. Yonan is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts.

May 14, 2019. Chef Sara Moulton hosts the public TV show, “Sara’s Weeknight Meals,” co-hosts a weekly segment on Milk Street radio, and is the author of four cookbooks, including “Home Cooking 101.” Sara was the executive chef of Gourmet magazine, Food Editor of ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America,” and the host of several well-loved shows on the Food Network during that channel’s first decade.

May 18, 2019. Chef Elizabeth Karmel is a nationally respected authority on grilling, barbecue and Southern food. She launched CarolinaCueToGo.com, an online barbecue shack, in 2015 to make whole-hog barbecue more easily accessible. She is the founding executive chef of Hill Country Barbecue Market in NYC, Brooklyn and Washington, D.C. Karmel writes for, and is frequently featured in an array of national magazines from Bon Appetit to Better Homes & Gardens. She appears regularly on all the network morning shows and is a guest judge on Chopped, Beat Bobby Flay, and Iron Chef. Her fifth cookbook, “Steak and Cake” will be published this Spring.

June 10, 2019. Chef Marge Perry is an award-winning writer who broadcasts, teaches and speaks about food, nutrition, travel and cooking. Marge has ghost and co-written nearly 20 other chef and celebrity food and nutrition books, including a number of New York Times best sellers.

June 11, 2019. Chef David Bonom began his culinary career working at some of the most prestigious New York City restaurants including Union Square Café, and catering for such notable clients as the Tisch family, Robert Rauschenberg, Bette Midler, First Lady Hilary Clinton, Sotheby’s and more. He is one of only a handful of culinary professionals in the country to have earned the prestigious CCP (Certified Culinary Professional) designation.

July 15-16, 2019. Chef Amanda Cushman of Chapel Hill Cooking Classes is a culinary educator, cookbook author, writer and recipe developer who has cooked professionally for over thirty years. She teaches privately for groups of two to twenty students in their home as well as having taught in venues such as Sur La Table, The Institute of Culinary Education, and more. She has hosted corporate team building classes for companies such as; Fitness Magazine, Exxon Mobile, Hugo Boss, Yahoo, Nike, Google, Guess Jeans, Direct TV and Toyota.

October 19, 2019. Chris Shepherd is a James Beard award-winning chef that has helped change the landscape of the Houston culinary scene since opening Underbelly in 2012. He built the restaurant to support the Houston food community and its suppliers by buying local and drawing inspiration from the people and cultures that live in the city. In 2017, Chris opened One Fifth, a five-year restaurant project that changes concepts every year. He closed Underbelly in March 2018 to convert the building into Georgia James, his take on a steakhouse.
