*Wise Women Wine and Cheese Author Chat | Embracing Imperfect Paths to Wellness & Recovery | Authors Mallary Tenore Tarpley and Amanda Ward
Location: Treehouse Lake Room
October 21, 2025 7:30 pm
In this special book event, local author Mallary Tenore Tarpley will discuss her new memoir, SLIP, with fellow local author Amanda Eyre Ward. SLIP blends personal narrative and research to illuminate what Mallary calls "the middle place" between acute sickness and full recovery from an eating disorder. It's an apt term for so many of the gray spaces we find ourselves in throughout life, and it's an invitation to embrace imperfections on the journey toward wellness. In the middle place, slips happen but progress is always possible.
Mallary, who is a journalism professor at the University of Texas at Austin and a journalist whose work has been published in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Teen Vogue, and more, will be in conversation with New York Times bestselling novelist Amanda Eyre Ward. The event will include time for Q&A.
Amanda is a New York Times bestselling author. Her novel, The Jetsetters, was a Hello Sunshine Reese Witherspoon book club pick. Her novels have been featured in People Magazine, The New York Times, and more. Amanda publishes nonfiction in Travel + Leisure, The New York Times, Texas Monthly and Bon Appetit. Amanda’s work has been optioned for film and television and translated into fifteen languages. Her new novel, Arrivals and Departures, will be published next summer.
